Various Support Group Offerings
Our office will be conducted several new groups starting in September. If you have clients that would benefit, please let us know.
Betty Ford Center Five Star Kids Program
The Betty Ford Center Five Star Kids program is specifically designed for children between the ages of 7 and 12 who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction to drugs or alcohol. Groups are held in Irving, Richardson and Ft. Worth at various dates throughout the year. The groups run for five hours on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and school excuses are provided for those groups held within the school year. Through the use of games, videos, activities, skits and expressive arts children learn that their family’s problems are not their fault and healthy ways to cope. On Saturday, a supportive caregiver attends with the child to learn and encourage future communication in healthy ways. Ongoing support is available after the program for both adults and children, and scholarships are available for any family in need.
Eating Disorder Group for People with Anorexia, Bulimia, or Compulsive Over Eating
The purpose of the group is to promote healthy coping skills for fighting eating disorders in a positive environment. This is a closed group and will only be open to new members every six weeks. An intake appointment is required. Please contact Holly Webb for more information.
“Club Destiny” is coming to Southlake in August 2010!
Do you know a teenage girl who is feeling lost, hurt, sad, angry, or discouraged? Club Destiny may be the group that can help! This support group is open to girls ages 13-17 who are struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, abuse, trauma, parents’ divorce, anger, bullying, over-achievement, dating violence, mental health diagnosis, or troubled relationships. Intake appointment is required before attending the group.
D/FW Self-injury Support and Therapy Groups
The goals of the groups are emotional support, education, and intervention. It is a place where injurers can share what coping skills have been helpful to them in addition to learning new skills from a licensed therapist who has extensive experience working with those who have a history of self-harm. The groups are interactive and discussions about the underlying issues that contribute to self-injury are addressed. The groups are designed to be non-judgmental and a safe place to talk about this behavior. Interested participants MUST REGISTER for the groups by contacting Lori Vann, M.A., LPC-Supervisor either through e-mail or calling her. These are NOT OPEN GROUPS.
